About

I didn't plan to write about any of this.

Stephen Evanoff, on how AgeProof Blueprint started and what it's for.

I spent part of my career as a senior manager inside a Fortune 500 organization. It taught me how large systems actually run: how decisions get made, how teams hold together, and how much of a day is shaped by structures somebody else built.

Then I went out on my own. I built and operated a sales and merchandising business and ran it for most of my working life. It was mine, and it was demanding in the way that only your own company is. Eventually I closed it.

The financial side of that was manageable. What I didn't anticipate was everything else that left with the business. No title. No team. No urgency. No scoreboard. Nobody needing an answer from me by four o'clock. On paper it looked like freedom. In practice it took a long time to feel like it.

So I got curious, which is my usual response to being uncomfortable. I started reading everything I could find about what happens to executives and founders after major exits — interviews, essays, letters, public accounts. Some of them had sold companies for sums most people can't picture, and they were describing the same disorientation I was.

That research turned into a YouTube channel, then a book called After the Exit, then a second one, What Retirement Doesn't Tell You, and now private coaching for people working through the same transition.

I'm not a psychologist, a physician, a therapist, or a financial adviser, and I'm careful not to play one. What I have is decades inside businesses, a transition I lived through badly before I lived through it well, a lot of research, and a systems habit I can't shake. That combination turns out to be useful, because most of what makes this stage hard isn't a diagnosis. It's the absence of a structure nobody thought to replace.

Alongside this, AgeProof Blueprint still publishes the independence resources it started with — practical tools for staying capable, organized and self-reliant after 60. That audience matters to me and those materials aren't going anywhere.
